New friends and new memories
Despite Sam never getting a day off... we are loving being a part of the USS Louisville family if only for one reason... the people! I am convinced the Louisville has the best wardroom of any submarine... or any other boat for that matter! We have so much enjoyed getting to know the guys Sam works with and their wives and children. A couple of weeks ago the wardroom had a "Hail and Farewell" for our friends Steve and Marisol who are leaving the boat for Steve to go on shore tour back in Hawaii. It is sad to see them go but we will see them again when the boat gets to Hawaii! Then the ladies all got together and took Marisol out for her last night out on the town in Portsmouth and here are a couple pictures from the occasion.
We will miss you, Steve and Natalia! Can't wait to see you guys in Hawaii!
Cape May with the O'Connors

Since Sam has been working his butt off and hasn't had a day off to spend with me for 2 weeks and running now... I went on a little mini vacation with my parents and sister. We use to go to Cape May, NJ when we were little kids. We always stayed at this old historic victorian inn called The Chalfonte. The place is so neat and with no air conditioning or other "white noise" you can hear the original wood floors creak as people walk up and down the halls and you can sleep with the windows open and listen to the sounds of the carriage horses walking the streets, little kids laughing and the ocean breeze blowing. There also are no private baths in your room so you always meet new people while using the shared hallway baths! Breakfast and dinner are included in your stay and they are delicious... particularly the homemade yeast rolls! This is the first time we've been to Cape May since we were kids and it is the first time we've gotten to eat in the formal dining room with the adults... as children we were always banished to the "children's dining room" which was our parent's favorite part of the vacation! We had a great time reliving old memories and relaxing on the porch of The Chalfonte and on the beach. It would have been perfect if only Sam had been there! I was even gone for his birthday (bad wife) although it didn't matter since he had duty which means he went to work at 5:30am and didn't come home until after the work day the NEXT day! We were going to celebrate his birthday this weekend, but he hasn't been home before 10pm yet this weekend to make it happen!

New Job
So today I started my new awesome job!
How this whole thing came about is totally a "God-thing" because I wouldn't have even dreamed it up on my own! We found a great new church here in New Hampshire, Bethany Church at Breakfast Hill, and I noticed about a month ago they were advertising for a some new children's ministry part time positions. One of the positions seemed like something I would enjoy and God wouldn't let me forget about it so I ended up applying and interviewing. I didn't expect to get the job because I told them up front I would be moving after Christmas. A couple of days later I get a call back from the Children's Director asking if I could come back in to talk with her. I was shocked and so excited.
During our second talk she said they had a need for someone to create and coordinate a 5th and 6th grade Sunday morning program that would eventually be volunteer lead. It was something they have dreamed about for awhile but haven't had the resources or the right person to make it happen. She said after meeting with me and looking over my resume and all the experience I had working with youth and discussing my passion for student ministry God put it on her heart during prayer to create the position for me. So she rearranged some of the other positions she was hiring for so she could afford to offer me this job.
I was sooo blown away and elated! 5th and 6th graders are my absolute favorite and this is pretty much my dream job. I get to create, from scratch, a specific program for them and develop a volunteer team that can ultimately take it over when I leave! Plus it is only part time which leaves me time to get my school work done as well. I am a little overwhelmed right now because the program kicks off September 7th and I have so much to do... painting and decorating our huge room, meeting with my volunteers, preparing a great kick-off week to get students hooked... but I am so excited because I love it all!
Please pray for me and this new ministry! That the right volunteers are draw to it and are able to commit to it, that I am able to get everything done for an amazing kick-off, and that this will really reach this age group of students in a relevant way to their lives. I feel a lot of responsibility regarding this because it was soooo clearly a "God thing" and He has really given me this amazing opportunity and I feel so blessed and want to really make the most of it!
